Speech Karaoke is a well-known format of an activist and political performance coined by a group of Finnish artists in 2005. Instead of songs, participants are invited to perform political speeches, artist manifestos or news pieces. For ‘The Russian bar’ TOK curatos have selected interviews, speeches by politicians and scientists, letters, songs, and bits of articles in Russian, Finnish and English that touch upon political and human relations between Russia and Finland in the historical and present contexts. The texts cover a wide range of topics - gender issues, freedom of speech, power games, censorship, international marriages, cross-cultural misunderstandings and communication and manu more!

Within a relaxed atmosphere one can listen to speeches delivered by other karaoke bar guests – or try out how it feels to interpret someone's speech. Please come and perform a speech by Ilya Repin or Johan Bäckman or a song by Killing Joe or Pussy Riot! The full list of  artists and politicanis from Russia and Finland will be available at the spot!
