About the project:

Third exhibition of public art "Critical Mass" will take place in the Gromov's Dacha, the unique wooden building of the 19th century, in summer-autumn 2015. In July, 2014 TOK arrange a series of the preparatory activities consisting of lectures, performances, summer school and research in order to open the dacha for citizens and to collect a material for the planned exhibition.

From July 21 to July 26, 2014 the unique wooden mansion of the 19th century will turn into an art and educational platform for exhibitions, lectures of artists and curators, performances and parties.

All events will take place within the international project of a public-art "Critical Mass" which Creative association of curators TOK has organize in St. Petersburg since 2010. After two exhibitions of a public-art "Critical mass” in the Nevsky, Petrogradsky and Frunzensky districts in 2011 and 2013, now TOK prepares the third exhibition in 2015 which will be located on the Gromov's Dacha – a unique monument of architecture in the city.

Educational and art events of the "Critical mass" this summer will help to intensify process of revival of the mansion and its transformation into the modern cultural center and to enter the building in a today's sociocultural landscape of Petrogradsky district. Open lectures, master classes, performances and excursions will give the chance to residents to learn more about the history and architecture of the Petrogradsky district, the modern art and urban work of artists, and also about renovation plans for the Gromov’s Dacha and the Lopukhinsky garden. Known Dutch designers of Foundation Projects together with inhabitants of the city and young Petersburg designers will create the furniture and mobile modules from the found objects which will allow to hold the public and cailtural events for adults and children at the dacha. Also for one week (21-27 of July) on the Gromov's Dacha the international school for young curators and artists "Creative and social practicians in public spaces" will work, studying the historical and modern context of Petrogradsky district.
